What is CBD

CBD is the abbreviation for Cannabidiol: one of 80 known cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD is found primarily in the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant. The two best known cannabinoids are CBD, or Cannabidiol, and THC. THC is the abbreviation for Tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is a psychoactive substance that gets you high or stoned. THC is in the CBD that can be bought in a coffee shop and is in principle not legal in the Netherlands.

Now hemp is also grown that does not contain THC, so these hemp plants can be legally grown and used for their fibers and seeds. These hemp plants are called industrial hemp or fiber hemp. CBD oil and other CBD products are made from this hemp. So in this hemp there is no THC, but there is the mentioned Cannabidiol (CBD). Of this CBD or Cannabidiol one does not get high or stoned and has no mind-altering effects.

The brands sold at Webshop Gezond en Fit contain no THC and contain CBD from legally grown hemp. Our CBD oil and capsules also contain the quantity that is stated by the company. Unfortunately, there are also products on the market that contain less CBD than stated.

Why is this substance CBD or Cannabidiol so beneficial for body and mind?

CBD is the best known of all cannabinoids and has been the most researched. Researchers discovered in the 1990s that the body itself also makes substances similar to the cannabinoids found in hemp. These endocannabinoids are substances that are responsible for overall health and regulate many functions and organs in the body. The central nervous system and the immune system, among others, are also regulated by these endocannabinoids. Cells have special places on the cell wall where these endocannabinoids can attach themselves and act on cell metabolism from here.

These places where the endocannabinoids attach to the cell wall are called receptors. This receptor system is the endocannabinoid system. Now, these reptors are not only stimulated by the endocannabinoids (which the body makes itself), but also by the cannabinoids contained in hemp, especially CBD (Cannabidiol). This is the reason that the substance CBD from the hemp acts on so many different levels in the body. CBD can support our health in many ways in this way.
